Sports Captains 2023 - 2024
Who are we?
Our sports captains are representatives from children in each of the 7 year groups across the school.
During the week of Monday 16th October, a number of brave children from Reception through to 6 put themselves forward to become this year's sports captains. They were voted for by their peers after writing applications detailing why they would be good at the job, the special skills they could offer and their ideas for improving PESSPA across the school. Our sports captains were duly elected (and announced during our weekly celebration assembly on Thursday 19th October) after presenting their applications to their classmates, demonstrating an admirable sense of courage.
We would like to congratulate all of the children who bravely applied for the positions and, after a democratic vote in each class, we are pleased to announce our Sports Captains for 2023/2024:
Florence - Year 6
Eddie and Eloise - Year 5
Paris - Year 4
Oliver - Year 3
Abhi - Year 2
Jacob - Year 1
Alba and Leonard - Reception
What will we be doing?
The captains will be supporting teaching staff with the delivery of all things PESSPA within our school. They will:
- Be role models to younger pupils by promoting the importance of being healthy and enjoying sport as well as showing exemplary attendance, appearance, manners, attitude and behaviour.
- Contribute to the organisation of sports resources.
- Support the PE lead in the planning and co-ordinating school sports day, 'active 60 activities' and whole school PESSPA events.
- Assist and support during beak times and lunch times with sports and physical activities.
- Be voices for their peers.
- Be involved with the charity fundraising event - Sports Relief (Friday 17th March 2024)
- Create and update Sports Captains Display Board
- Be involved in PESSPA presentations in weekly Celebration Assemblies.
- Wear the Sports Captain's badge
What can you do?
If you have anything you would like the sports captains to consider or discuss to enhance PE lessons in school, improve accessibility to physical activity during the school day or make school sport more attractive please talk to us!
