DancEd - Save Our Planet

Paula and Ellen from dancED worked with Otter Class ahead of entering the children into the South Cambs School Partnership’s Virtual Dance competition, ‘Saving Our Planet’. Otter’s dance was inspired by the book, ‘Being a Bee’ by Jinny Johnson and Lucy Davey and the campaign to save the bees by growing more bee friendly plants and flowers. The piece contained gardeners digging and preparing their garden ahead of scattering wild flower seeds. The seeds were then watered, grew and bloomed, attracting some bees who woke from their hive. The bees pollinated the flowers and performed a waggle dance to alert other bees to the treasures! The piece ended with a flower unfolding, petal by petal.
During the process, all children experienced improvisation, mime, use of levels, sizes, speeds, pathways, different pathways and formations working in both canon and unison with partners.
Hedgehog Class were lucky enough to see the performance from start to finish – what a treat!
We are so lucky to have Paula and Ellen as part of our school community and would like to thank them for their enthusiasm, energy and commitment to delivering such engaging, high quality dance opportunities.
