SEND
At Coton C of E (VC) Primary School, we follow the fundamental principles of the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Code of Practice, which are:
a child with SEND should have their needs met;
the SEND of children will normally be met in mainstream schools or early education setting;
the views of the child and their parents will be sought and taken into account;
children with SEND should be offered full access to a broad, balanced and relevant education, including an appropriate curriculum for the Foundation Stage and the National Curriculum
Cambridgeshire’s Local Offer
All Cambridgeshire Local Authority (LA) maintained schools have a similar approach to meeting the needs of pupils with Special Educational Needs and /or disabilities and are supported by the LA to ensure that all pupils, regardless of their specific needs, make the best possible progress in school.
The Children and Families Bill was enacted in September 2014 – from this date Local Authorities and schools were required to publish and keep under review information about services they expect to be available for children and young people with special educational needs (SEN) aged 0-25.
The LA refer to this as the ‘Local Offer’, the intention being to improve choice and transparency for families. It is also an important resource for parents in understanding the range of services and provision in the local area.
The purpose of the local offer is to enable parents and young people to see more clearly what services are available in their area and how to access them. It includes provision from birth to 25, across education, health and social care. Cambridgeshire’s Local Offer is available from the website:
