‘A high-quality languages education should foster pupils’ curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world. The teaching should enable pupils to express their ideas and thoughts in another language and to understand and respond to its speakers, both in speech and in writing.’

(National Curriculum 2014)

At Coton we endeavour to foster a love of languages by teaching Spanish across KS2. Learning a language encourages the children to broaden their knowledge of the world, providing an insight into another culture and helping them to prepare to become global citizens.  The Spanish curriculum is delivered in a fun and engaging way through a range of activities, songs and games which are part of a clearly planned learning sequence. The children are exposed to both written and spoken language, developing their skills of oracy and literacy. By opening the door to one language, our aim is to encourage the children to develop a love of language learning which opens the door to learning others.
