Spanish

Intent

‘A high-quality languages education should foster pupils’ curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world. The teaching should enable pupils to express their ideas and thoughts in another language and to understand and respond to its speakers, both in speech and in writing.’

(National Curriculum 2014)

At Coton, we endeavour to foster a love of languages by teaching Spanish across Key Stage Two. Learning a language encourages the children to broaden their knowledge of the world, providing an insight into another culture and helping them to become global citizens. Our Spanish curriculum is delivered in a comprehensive and thoroughly-planned manner by a specialist teacher. The children are exposed to both written and spoken language, developing their skills of oracy and literacy. By opening the door to one language, our aim is to encourage the children to develop a love of language learning which opens the door to learning others.

Our Spanish curriculum and all associated lesson materials have been created by Senora Clare Allinson, who will deliver our Spanish lessons in school, starting from September 2023.
