Swimming and Water Safety

Kestrel Class took to the water like ducks to a pond this afternoon! Their first session of the summer swim season saw them refresh safe entry and exits alongside discussing how the body responds to cold water (cold water immersion and shock). They then explored how to stay safe in cold water: keep calm, control breathing, 'float to live', when calm, float, scull, or tread water before raising one arm and shouting for HELP. They also learnt to 'huddle' if in a group as a way to conserve body heat and offer moral support to one another.

BLABT (Body, Legs, Arms, Breathing, Timing) was then applied to offer opportunities for children to develop their front crawl techniques.

What a glorious morning for Kestrel Class to reap the benefits of our own on site pool.
So many individual success today celebrated by the class as a whole.
A huge thank you to Martina for her swimming coaching assistance - we are incredibly lucky to have such an expert in our parent community willing to support each week.
