Medicines in School

Medicines in School

If your child needs medicine in school for an ongoing medical condition such as asthma or an allergy, then we ask you to complete an individual healthcare plan (see below).  This can then be discussed with one of our first aiders, so that your child's needs are met appropriately.

There are occasions when it might be necessary for your child to have medicine in school temporarily.  Please be aware that we are not able to administer medication to children, but if your child is competent we can supervise self-administration.  In this case, we ask a parent to bring the medication with a completed parental agreement form (see below) to the school office.  This will give you the opportunity to discuss your child's medical requirements with a fully qualified first-aider.  Please be aware that it is the parents' responsibility to ensure that all medication is in date and appropriate for your child. For younger children, it might be necessary to ask a responsible adult to come into school to administer medication.
