Intent

At Coton C of E (VC) Primary School, Music is a wholly inclusive subject which is accessible to all learners. The Music curriculum, currently in development by the Music leader, is designed to engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of Music. This ambitious curriculum enables pupils to develop a rich understanding of a wide-range of genres, styles, traditions and the history of Music, whilst inspiring their creativity and providing them with an outlet for this type of art form. Pupils also have the opportunity to learn to play a range of instruments to develop their skills as musicians. Music lessons encourage pupils to express themselves, grow in confidence and achieve. They also provide all pupils with opportunities which they may not have access to outside of school, through instrument tuition, watching live performances, exposure to a range of musical styles and opportunities to perform. By the end of their time at the school, pupils will leave with a passion for Music, the ability to play selected instruments, and the knowledge of music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions, including the works of the great composers and musicians.
