Cricket

It was lovely to welcome Matt Morley (Cambridgeshire Cricket's Development Manager) back to Coton to support with the delivery of our cricket units in both Hedgehog and Kestrel Class. For the first week, we developed our throwing and catching skills through partner work and small game play.

Matt rehearsed some key teaching points: the 'ready' position, ensuring we were offering a 'big catching area' with our hands, feet hip width apart, knees slightly bent, moving our feet to catch rather than remaining stationary and communicating with our partners / teammates to name but a few. We were required to apply these refined skills with accuracy and consistency as we attempted to outwit our opponents in the  small sided catching game as teams strived to secure the most points for their team. There were physical successes (children successfully throwing and catching consistently with accuracy), cognitive successes (children clearly explaining what is required throw and catch with accuracy), social successes (children communicating successfully with their partners and teams) and emotional successes (children encouraging their team mates and trying their best irrespective of the score).

A great first session and we can't wait to see what Mr Morley has in store for us next week.
