Active Maths Club
What a great first week at our newest extra-curricular club of the year!
Maths and movement - who could ask for anything more?

Three slightly different activities at this afternoon's Active Maths club.
Station one, working with a partner, how far can you jump from standing? How far is it in cm? How far is it in m and cm? How would you represent this as a decimal? I wonder if you can represent it as a whole number of metres and a fraction of a metre?
Station two, place vale and ordering numbers. Working as a team, can you order yourselves whilst standing on a bench? You are not allowed to touch the floor!
Station three, fluent recall of our multiplication tables combined with our knowledge of odd and even numbers. Is the product odd or even? How do you know?
Individual, paired and team challenges this week.
Place value, adding strings of numbers, multiples of ten and multiplying three digits were the order of the day maths wise this week. Sprinting, new age curling, bowling and target throwing the active elements. Great fun was had by all!
A big shout out to our three young adult helpers who are giving up their time voluntarily to run the club!
Oh...and did you spot the rather impressive leap to retrieve the sticky ball!

Counting forwards and backwards in multiples of ten whilst playing elephant football - some of us were counting in negative numbers!
Adding fractions with the same denominator (to include simplifying where possible) as teams competed against each other to secure the most 'treasure'.
Dice penalty shoot out, unsurprisingly hugely popular with the footballers amongst us, whilst recalling multiplication facts.
The Finnish sport of Molkky providing us with an opportunity to add strings of numbers whilst trying to be as accurate as possible aiming towards a target.
Well done to the attendees for taking on the challenges with such courage.
