Year 5/6 Quicksticks Hockey Tournament March 6th 2019

On a grey Wednesday afternoon a group of year 5 and 6 children left Coton school with hope in their hearts and smiles on their faces. Mrs Scarboro, our PE specialist teacher from CVC, picked us up in the minibus and we were on our way.

Quickstick hockey has teams of 4 (2 boys and 2 girls) and play with no goalkeeper. There were two pools in each competition.  Each match lasted 7 minutes and so there was no time to waste. Coton had two teams, Blue and Green, and entered the Cup and Plate competitions. Each team played 5 matches so there was  opportunity for everyone to play.
The Blue team won 2 matches and lost three so came 4th overall. The Green team won three matches, drew one and lost one. The children played very well considering that the last time they played hockey was before Christmas and they had never played in these teams.

The weather turned and it begun to rain but the competition continued. The children showed great team work and challenged themselves throughout the afternoon. Well done!

Easter Workshops at Coton church

On Friday 29th March the children in KS 2, Emerald, Topaz and Sapphire classes, went over to St Peter's church to participate in an Easter workshop led by Victoria Goodman form the Cambridge Church Schools Trust.
The session started with reenacting the Palm Sunday story when Jesus entered Jerusalem. The children then heard the Easter story, beautifully told with symbols. The atmosphere was amazing.
The children then had three activities: collecting 20 objects to represent each stage of the story; using modelling clay to make something to do with the story and painting symbols of Easter.
Thank you Victoria it was a great morning.
