15th June 2018
One damp day, 12 children from Coton Primary School took a minibus to Wilberforce road to take part in a Small Schools Quad Kids Athletics Competition. There were 4 events: vortex howler throw; standing long jump; 600m run and 75m sprint. The children were split into 4 groups: Boys A,B,C and D and Girls A,B,C and D. There were 2 groups taking part on each event and the groups rotated around.Half way through there was a short break in the proceedings as it bucketed it down!
At the end we all waited in anticipation because only 1st and 2nd were to go through to the Summer Games County final. It became more tense and more tense as the announcers went further up the leader board until they called, "In second place is.... Coton Primary School ". We were ecstatic! We went back full of joy and satisfied that we were going through to represent South Cambridgeshire in the County finals.

Mixed kwik cricket final at Clare College 21st June 2018
Our kwik cricketers took to the beautifully manicured pitches at Clare College Sports Ground to compete in the County final. This saw the culmination of a series of earlier rounds involving 60 schools. Of the 16 schools taking part, Coton were the smallest and did an amazing job topping their group in the round robin league format during the early stages of the competition. This secured the team a top four spot which, considering the team consisted of children in years 4, 5 and 6 whilst other teams were represented by just year 6 children, was an amazing achievement. Unfortunately the team lost by just ten runs in the quarter final stages of the competition but none the less, showed great strength of character going on to win their remaining two matches. Well done Clark, Holly, Madeline, Olivia, Hannah, Owen, Joel and Josh. The guest in the photo for any of you intrigued to find out who photo bombed the shot is Barry Corr, Cambridge United’s striker for the 2018 / 2019 season. Barry was involved in some pre-season training with a few other of the first team players at the ground and the children were delighted to get an opportunity to chat to him and hear all about his footballing journey. A great inspirational bonus!

Coton year 5 Swimming Gala
On the 22nd June 2018 the year 5 Swimming Gala took place at Comberton Village College. Overall we did very well, winning 5 out of 13 races. It wasn’t only the year 5s, 2 year 4s went and they did brilliantly! Give a shout out to Mrs Osborne and Miss Emery who took us to the event, also, Scarlett Balderstone for being our team manager. We all commented it as, “A great event!” and gave it a 10/10! We came 4th but everyone was proud of themselves.
