Kwik Cricket County Finals
On Thursday afternoon, a slightly depleted team of 8 boys and girls and Ms Hayesmore headed off to Histon Recreation ground to compete in the postponed final of the Cambridgeshire Primary School’s Mixed Kwik Cricket competition. Cosmo was, again, an excellent captain: organising the rest of the team, providing encouragement and opening the batting with a very high run rate in every match. All of the team showed great determination in the group stages with some fantastic catches, lots of boundaries, and some amazing on-target bowling. Having won two, but narrowly losing one, of our matches, the team prepared to set off back to Coton, proud of our cricket and sportsmanship, but knowing that we had not come top in our group. However, when the results of the group stages were announced we were excited to find that we were through to the semi-finals as the highest scoring runners-up! Unfortunately, our opponents in the semi-final were The Perse School, who were too strong for us. This put us into our last match of the day – a play-off for 3rd/4th against Harston and Newton, the team that had narrowly beaten us earlier. Cosmo led a pep-talk, and re-organised our bowlers using knowledge gleaned from our earlier match. The team were determined to show their very best cricket. And they did; beating Harston and Newton resoundlingly to be placed 3rd in the County. It was a brilliant result and we are all very proud of them.
