Coton’s Gymnasts Perform with Precision and Poise!

On Wednesday 10th February, 8 year 4 children represented Coton School at the South Cambridgeshire School Sports Partnership’s gymnastic competition. There were 12 teams competing from primary schools of all sizes across South Cambridgeshire.

Comberton Village College was again this year’s venue with the two disciplines, a vault and a floor routine, being conducted in two gymnasiums.

Mrs Osborne was delighted in the way that the children supported one another during the vault, each clapped one another’s attempts, they were all there to high five each gymnast as they left the vault and they didn’t stop at their own teammates……….their support and encouragement extended to children from other schools which is a reflection of the way that Coton continually reinforce respect for all competitors in sports competition.

All the children had really improved, having only had a few weeks in which to learn and perform their routines. A big thank you to all parents for supporting their children at home, helping them to learn and refine their routines. Pointed toes, straight legs, strong cores and elegant hands were on display in abundance. So that’s another well done to all the gymnasts!

Finally the results were in. Having won the competition last year, the gymnasts had set themselves high expectations. As the schools were announced it came to the final two places and Coton’s name was yet to be read out. The tension mounted.

Linton Heights were crowned champions, with Coton a mere 0.4 points behind in second place, a result to be incredibly proud of.

Well done to Daisy, Qiao Qiao, Ellen, Minsoo, Olivia, Madeline, Eve and Manuela. There was one further surprise in store for Coton. Manuela took third place in the individual competition, scoring the third highest combined score for both disciplines out of all the competitors. A fantastic achievement!

The team of gymnasts now go on to represent South Cambridgeshire in the County Finals at the Olympic gym in Huntingdon.
