Shang Dynasty Day January 2022
Our Shang Dynasty Day
On Friday 7th January, we were finally able to conclude and celebrate our Autumn term topic with our (postponed) themed, 'Shang Dynasty' day. The children came to school dressed as Shang warriors, Shang queens and even traditional Shang villagers - I would like to thank parents for their support with this; the children looked AMAZING! Throughout the day, the children spent time: cracking codes by reading and writing in Shang, re-creating a modern Chinese dish of egg-fried rice in the food technology room and working collaboratively as part of a small group to prepare a PowerPoint presentation to share all of their Shang Dynasty learning. To end the day, we explored the history of writing in Shang and investigated the evidence archaeologists had found on oracle bones during a excavation in Anyang. We used this information to create our own oracle bones out of clay, engraving them with our own questions as the kings and queens had done during the Shang era. An enjoyable day was had by all.
