Inuit Artwork - February 2023
As part of our Frozen Kingdoms topic, we have LOVED learning about the Inuit way of life, including some of their cultural and artistic traditions. We spent time researching and appreciating the work of significant Inuit artists such as Jessie Oonark and Kenojuak Ashevak, before using some of their techniques as inspiration for our own 'soapstone' carvings and stencils. We cannot wait to explore the 1960 stonecut print, 'The Enchanted Owl', which became an icon of Inuit art and, more broadly, a symbol of Canada, in our next lesson.
